Julian Duque was born in Medellin, Colombia. When he was 7, he moved to New Jersey and later, at the age of 15, moved to Georgia. Around this time, both Julian and his mother because United States citizens. When Julian was turning 18, a friend told him to try dance for fun, and he fell in love with it. In 2009, Julian started classes at Sugarloaf Performing Arts, where he trained with Lori Zamzow Wire, Michelle Bourgeois, and Howard Etheridge, alongside taking classes at The Georgia Ballet. In 2010, he continued his ballet training at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, where he has studied for the past three years. During his time at CPYB, Julian trained with Marcia Dale Weary, Leslie Hench, Laszlo Berdo, Bruce Thornton and CPYB resident choreographer, Alan Hineline, among others. Julian has performed roles in many classical and contemporary ballets while at CPYB including Paul Taylor’s Company B, Swan Lake, Giselle, as well as George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker, Serenade, Divertimento No. 15, and Who Cares? This is Julian’s first season with Tulsa Ballet II.
